Started back in 2022 late - early 2023, Oh Maria! was my way of coping through psychosis, everyday struggles, and my desire to commit suicide. Originally wanted it to be an ARG, a very creepy one, has now evolved to a movie. A movie which goal is to spread awareness of younger generations want of self destruction, as well as anything on the psychotic spectrum. Psychosis was the worst thing to ever happen to me, but I want to make it something that people can accept and not see as dangerous, if that makes sense.
Little fun fact, when I first made this website it was originally supposed to be used for this ARG idea, early 2024.
Purpose
People always used to or still continue to see me as dangerous or someone who wants to cause harm because of psychosis and other mental issues I've experienced. The reality is that I'm more harmful to myself. Though, I don't want it to seem like everybody who has gone through mental issues isn't dangerous. There are cases like that, a lot of them. But I just want people to understand it's not EVERYBODY, you know?
Extra
I don't know what this movie would be rated. I think movie ratings are really stupid. I mean, some are PG-13 yet depict murder, and some are MA because of some sex scenes even though sex is a common thing almost everybody does at least once. This has a lot in it. Suicide, drugs, nudity, body horror, religious horror, and more. This story takes place during the early 1930's. The artstyle is based off of late 1920's-1930's cartoons. Maybe I clarify, *based*, since it's pretty obvious it doesn't look the exact same as those cartoons. If I made the artstyle of Oh Maria! too cartoony, the setting, the horror, and the story wouldn't fit. It would look too.. lighthearted I suppose.
She's in her early 20's, a well known pianist who lacks little emotion. Due to this lack of emotion, she is "50/50 good and bad", the reason why is told at the ending.
Her name was the only name on my mind, she looked like a Maria when I first saw her. There are old drawings of her with stars in her hands, and a rose. The rose was originally how she would free the souls in limbo.
A highschool student obsessed with his new classmate Caroline Clark. He comes from a very normal family, and normal life overall, until this girl shows up. She is simply a figment of his imagination, but he doesn't know that. He has a terrible hunchback, as well as being very tall regardless. He's 6'4 but appears to be 6'1 due to this. He is the only character to have more silly looking gloves, seen as being long and wonky. This was to sort of bring up his shyness and timidness by his design, sort of.
His design was based a bit off of some guy I liked back in the 6th grade who also made me feel a bit like Henry, if that makes sense.
She is like blur, like a ghost, or a statue without a face if you get what I mean. Nothing is known about her home or upbringing. She has a very distant personality. Despite this, she still acts a bit odd, especially around Henry. Sometimes she hugs him, or completely ignores him. This odd contrast in her actions confuses him, but that's the point. She has a sort of unsettling aura to her. It's like a soft, heartwarming whisper that isn't actually real. Like when someone you love calls your name, but they weren't actually- that is Caroline Clark.
I came up with her idea from the song Caroline, Please Kill Me by Coma Cinema. See, I got into this comic book series called Scott Pilgrim and his name comes from the song "Scott Pilgrim" by a band named Plumtree. I wanted to make a character based/named after a song because of this, hence Caroline Clark was created. She was actually the turning point of Oh Maria! becoming a horror series rather than a silly 1930's looking cartoon. Originally, I created her design even before that, making her a little kid at first (which was then replaced by Ronnie), since I didn't have any characters who were younger and I wanted many ages in Oh Maria!, also since she wasn't going to have any connection to Henry at that time.
He's really jolly until the guilt of killing his father sets in. He becomes somebody completely different. He's easily irritated, upset, and nervous. Once his guilt and mourning becomes too much, he hangs himself. The first person to see this is Ramona, who tells her mother after staring and processing what had just happened.
He's Ramona's twin, he wears a similar outfit to her.
A 14 year old who experiences the world as an oddity compared to everyone around her. She is extremely depressed, and suffers from delusions and hallucinations. In contrast to Henry, these delusions and hallucinations aren't of a girl who you'd become obsessed with- this girl has trouble trusting many people, believing of time-loops, others trying to murder her, and many other odd beliefs. She has a hard time finding the meaning of even continuing to the next day. When she finally finds hope, she dies due to her physical state from her depression.
I based her design a bit off of Lisa Miller from the Scott Pilgrim series.
At some point, I planned on making her kill her doctor, but I decided not to due to the amount of stuff already happening to her. I felt bad for her I guess? Also because that would maybe make people think people with this mental state could be very, very violent. It is true that they can be, but not everybody, 2 things can be true at once.
Ronnie, oh Ronnie, he means a lot to me. He wears a pumpkin head to scare kids on Halloween because it makes him feel like he's in charge for once. His father is abusive towards his mother, physically and emotionally. Autumm is his favorite season, just like how Autumn is my favorite as well. His hair is really, really matted. He wears a suit a lot of the time, it's some of the only clothing he owns since his family is poor, like, really poor. He thinks Mandy doesn't want to help him, and wants him to suffer.
I gave him pumpkin and ghost hairclips when I first designed him, he was going to be a really happy kid just like Henry. I don't remember the exact timeline, I think I made him a bit before or a bit after I made Henry, so before Caroline Clark was created.
She's a clumsy nurse who tries her absolute best to help Ronnie. She wants the best for people, but she doesn't know how to help Ronnie. It's not that she doesn't want to, like what Ronnie thinks.
I originally made an old cartoon looking nurse character awhile ago, maybe 2021? Or saw one and thought that the character looked cool, I can't really remember. She was made after Henry, but before Ronnie. I remember the line up was Henry, Maria, and Mandy, so she's one of the oldest, but her concept was definitely the oldest.
