Welp. This really is my biggest project ever. Started back in 2022 late - early 2023, Oh Maria! was my way of coping through psychosis, everyday struggles, and my desire to commit suicide. Originally wanted it to be an ARG, a very creepy one, has now evolved to a movie. A movie which goal is to spread awareness of younger generations want of self destruction, as well as anything on the psychotic spectrum. Psychosis was the worst thing to ever happen to me, but I want to make it something that people can accept and not see as dangerous, if that makes sense.
Little fun fact, when I first made this website it was originally supposed to be used for this ARG idea, early 2024.
Purpose
People always used to or still continue to see me as dangerous or someone who wants to cause harm because of psychosis and other mental issues I've experienced. The reality is that I'm more harmful to myself. Though, I don't want it to seem like everybody who has gone through mental issues isn't dangerous. There are cases like that, a lot of them. But I just want people to understand it's not EVERYBODY, you know?
This story takes place during the early 1930's. The artstyle is based off of late 1920's-1930's cartoons. Maybe I clarify, *based*, since it's pretty obvious it doesn't look the exact same as those cartoons. If I made the artstyle of Oh Maria! too cartoony, the setting, the horror, and the story wouldn't fit. It would look too.. lighthearted I suppose.
Extra
I don't know what this movie would be rated. I think movie ratings are really stupid. I mean, some are PG-13 yet depict murder, and some are MA because of some sex scenes even though sex is a common thing almost everybody does at least once. This has a lot in it. Suicide, drugs, nudity, body horror, religious horror, and more.
Maria is a 20-23 year old pianist who lacks much emotion. After a mediocre performance, she is run over by a train and dies almost instantly. Once she has ascended to heaven, the people at heavens gate tell her that she's 50/50 good and bad. Due to this rare coincidence, she is made to watch over the people in limbo who have suffered being 50/50 people as well. If she can help them get into heaven, she will also get into heaven.
Henry Fletcher (Henry oh so Merry!), Caroline Clark, Ramona & Raymond Jasper, Mandy [the Handy] (unknown last name), Ronnie [no last name currently decided yet].
Henry and Caroline
Henry Fletcher (otherwise known as Henry oh so Merry!): Henry is a pretty normal teenager, other than being very, very introverted and shy. He doesn't have any hobbies besides writing poetry.
At the age of 17-18, during his highschool years, a girl named Caroline Clark starts going to his school. When he first sees her, he doesn't think much. As time goes on, though, he begins to become obsessed with this girl. Slowly increasing, and slowly going "crazy." After he dies and gets sent to limbo, he is given an infinite piece of paper to write poems on. How'd he die? Caroline killed him... More about that in a bit.
Caroline Clark: Ok, immediately, this character isn't named after me. She's named after the song Caroline, Please Kill Me by Coma Cinema. Just like how Wayne from Maureen! isn't named off of me either.
Caroline isn't real. She is a person Henry created in his head due to him being super introverted which then, at least for Henry, led to isolation. She's mysterious, quiet, like a shadow. It's kind of hard to explain her, but she's just like a robot. She can't feel anything really, but it's like she's trying to. Either way, she doesn't exist.
Well, how'd Caroline kill Henry if she didn't exist? He simply killed himself.
Raymond and Ramona
Ramona Jasper: Ramona and Raymond's father passed away, leading to her brother committing suicide out of guilt. Due to 2 deaths in her family, and an already deteriorating mental state, Ramona falls deeper into her depression, accompanied with delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thoughts and speech. She cannot tell reality from fantasy, and quickly feels like she's going insane. Her room is a giant mess. Old, rotting food on the floor, bugs, clothing everywhere, as she doesn't even want to get up at all. She starts taking drugs to get her mind off of the deaths of her brother and her father, but these intensify her psychotic symptoms. Her mother wishes to help Ramona in this beyond difficult period, for not just Ramona, but herself too, and slowly realizes that no place is going to try to help Ramona without making her worse somehow, due to the time period. She ends up dying due to her physical state being as it was.
Unlike Henry who is still a bit happy in limbo, Ramona continues to dwell on the past. Still lying in bed, just not glued to it anymore.
Raymond Jasper: As stated previously, Raymond is overcome by the guilt of his father passing away due to him being involved. It was an accident, though. While cooking, Raymond stabs his and Ramona's father, since he was playing around. Raymond knew this could've been prevented, and not happened at all if he wasn't playing around with a kitchen knife. In the end, he hangs himself in his bedroom. Instead of dying by his neck snapping, he suffocates to death.
Ronnie and Mandy
Ronnie: Ronnie comes from an abusive, poor household. His parents fight constantly, verbally and physically, and Ronnie isn't an expection to this abuse either. His hair is matted, he's malnourished, and overall looks very, very tired. He starts to hallucinate- bugs under his skin- and feeling like he's going to die. He seeks help from a nurse named Mandy.
But on Halloween, Ronnie likes to scare kids in his town with his pumpkin head, it makes him feel like he finally has the upper-hand of scaring people! Though, he always ends up in trouble in the end.
He dies from starvation. In limbo, he just carries his pumpkin head to try and scare other kids who are also trapped there with him.
Mandy: A very clumsy nurse who Ronnie prays will somehow help him. Due to the time, she doesn't know exactly what to do. She knows most treatments wouldn't help him mentally with his delusions and hallucinations of bugs, and is only able to try and help him with his physical issues. He scratches himself a lot due to the sensation of bugs, therefore there are many wounds on his body. Though, she's too late to help with his eating.
